Young Men of Honor 2023 Summer Excursion
The Young Men of Honor would like to thank the Archons of the Alpha Lambda Boule’ for helping to make this year’s dream a reality for the young men. Each academic school year, the Archons of Alpha Lambda Boulé assist in sponsoring the end-of-year excursions and honoring their academic achievements.
When the 2023 academic school year resumes, Alpha Lambda Boulé Archons anticipate continuing the weekly school sessions and challenging the Young Men of Honor to strive for academic excellence in their studies.
To begin their three-day summer excursion of 2023, the YMOH had the opportunity to explore the Kennedy Space Center for an entire day. The students could visit NASA’s primary launch center for human spaceflights and exploration over the past sixty (60) years and discover the future plans for space travel and exploration.
Following the incredible day of visiting the Kennedy Space Center, the YMOH traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida, to visit Bethume-Cookman University. Mr. Deric Feacher, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Daytona Beach, hosted the YMOH for day two of their visit. Although the primary objective for day two of the Summer Outing was to provide a guided tour of the Bethume-Cookman University Campus, Mr. Feacher also provided a day of special events to make this trip one of the most educational and exciting trips ever for the YMOH.
After an amazing tour of Bethume-Cookman University, Mr. Feacher provided a special tour of the Daytona Beach City Hall with one of their favorite lunches being served from Chick-fil-A. The students were surprised by a special visit to the Jackie Robinson Ballpark after lunch. At the park, they learned about the history of the integration of Major League Baseball. They were given a baseball hat and ball as a souvenir.
The surprises continued with a special visit to the Hunt House, a black-owned rental home in downtown Daytona Beach, and what would a trip to Daytona Beach be without a tour and pictures of the Atlantic Ocean from the Daytona Beach Breakers and Beach Boardwalk.
Finally, the day concluded with a “Big Surprise” visit to the Daytona International Speedway arranged by Mr. Feacher. The students were driven onto the center of the racetrack and allowed to take pictures in the “winner circle.” The students were extremely grateful for the hospitality shown by Mr. Feacher. They thanked him for this exciting educational trip to Daytona Beach, Florida.
